I've been watching "Eight Thousand Miles of Clouds and Moon" with my mom lately. The bloody scenes were suffocating. World peace, opposition to war β when I was a kid these words seemed like high-sounding hypocrisy. But the older I get, the more I realize what I really want is world peace.
A line from "The Outcast" came to mind: "There will always be those who come after." The logic of targeted killings is: eliminate the leader, and the war ends. But that's never how conflict works. A war, a grudge β its roots are never in a single person. Each generation passes down the wounds, adds their own, and hands it to the next.
When a person dies, the grievances they endured, the loved ones they lost, the lives destroyed β these never disappear.
There will always be those who come after.
