Honestly, as a science-minded woman, I've always been half skeptical about metaphysics. But lately, the term "Nine Purple Li Fire" has been flooding my feed, so I decided to dig in and actually study it.

This concept comes from Xuan Kong Flying Stars, a system within traditional Chinese Feng Shui and destiny philosophy. Simply put, the world's fortune operates on a 180-year grand cycle, divided into three 60-year "Eras," each further split into three 20-year "Periods."

Period 7 (1974–2003, Dui Metal Period): Dui represents the mouth, Metal governs sharpness. These thirty years were the era of the mouth (Hong Kong pop stars, pagers, telephones, media), and also the age of metal tools (industrialization).

Period 8 (2004–2023, Gen Earth Period): Gen represents mountains, Earth governs real estate. These twenty years saw real estate skyrocket, mining boom, and the golden age of construction. The internet emerged late in Period 8, but it was essentially still "building on Earth" (creating platforms).

Period 9 (2024–2043, Li Fire Period): Fire is here β€” it will burn away the old (industry reshuffling), emit light (high tech), and illuminate the inner self (spiritual needs).

In metaphysics, each year and each period has a numerical code (from One White to Nine Purple). The number 9 corresponds to the color purple and belongs to the Fire element in the Five Elements. Hence the name "Nine Purple Li Fire Period" β€” it sounds auspicious, evoking the image of "purple qi coming from the east."

What thrives in the Nine Purple Li Fire era? According to this system's logic, Li Fire governs:

High tech and information. Electricity, light, screens β€” isn't that just the internet and AI? All those content creators, streamers, and tech people emerging now β€” in metaphysical terms, this is called "going with the flow."

Female energy. The Li trigram corresponds to middle-aged women, as well as the eyes and heart. This period is considered the rise of women β€” I'll admit I felt a little thrill hearing that.

Education and culture. Li Fire also governs literary talent and creativity. Creative and educational industries are said to become increasingly popular.

Beauty and appearance. This period also governs the "looks economy." No wonder medical aesthetics, fashion, and lifestyle refinement are all booming.

My son is 4 this year, right at the start of this period, so of course I wanted to know what this era means for children.

First, this era especially values "spirituality and creativity." Li Fire governs wisdom and flashes of insight. Children born or raised in Period 9 are said to be more creative and more adaptable to new things. Haven't you noticed 4- and 5-year-olds using phones better than you?

Second, learning methods will change. Period 9 governs "vision and light." Children absorb information more and more through images and video. Rote memorization and endless drilling will work less and less on this generation. But tell them a story, draw a picture, play a short video, and the effect is ten times better. So now when I pick things for my kid, I go for "high interactivity, great visuals" β€” not spoiling him, just going with the flow.

Third, emotional management becomes a core issue. Li Fire governs the heart, and in traditional Chinese medicine, the heart governs emotions and consciousness. Children growing up in this era have richer emotions and stronger sensitivity, but they're also more easily affected. Look how childhood emotional issues are getting more attention now β€” anxiety, burnout, sensory integration disorder... This metaphysical system said it long ago: in a fire-dominant era, the "heart" is the most important subject.

Saying Period 9 favors high tech doesn't mean kids born now will automatically know how to code. Saying Li Fire governs emotions doesn't mean sensitive kids are unmanageable. At most, it's a reminder: this is the direction the era is heading. As parents, maybe it's worth adjusting your bearings.

Thinking about it that way makes me feel a lot more grounded.
