Last week was kindergarten open day. I sat in the back of the classroom watching free play.
The girls were clustered in groups, holding hands, talking, sharing toys, cooperating. The boys were everywhere β running, jumping, building blocks and knocking them down, minimal verbal communication. My son was building a tower with another boy. They barely spoke but understood each other perfectly.
The teacher said: "Every year, same thing. Girls form little social circles. Boys form a chaos collective."
Girls typically develop language and social skills earlier. Boys process the world through movement and spatial exploration. Neither is better.
The lesson: don't compare. He'll get there on his own timeline. And the chaos collective? There's a certain beauty in it too.
